Door County Waterfront Homes for Chicago Buyers

Door County, Wisconsin is a peninsula about four hours north of Chicago by car, or a little over an hour by plane from O’Hare to Green Bay, with private and charter aircraft landing at Door County Cherryland Airport in Sturgeon Bay. More than 300 miles of Green Bay and Lake Michigan shoreline hold bluff-top homes, harbor-front properties and island acreage, and many change hands privately before they reach the public market. Christie’s International Real Estate | @properties elleven represents Chicago buyers across the county, led by Erika Skogg, who grew up on the peninsula.

The Case for Door County

A Fixed Shoreline

Door County’s waterfront is set by geography, and a meaningful share of it is protected inside five state parks and private preserves. The supply of shoreline that comes to market is finite.

Exceptional Value

Door County’s waterfront offers more privacy, more shoreline and more home than Lake Geneva or Michigan’s shore, at better values. For Chicago buyers the tradeoff is distance, and a short flight closes it.

Private Access

Many of Door County’s waterfront homes change hands before they reach the public market. We bring qualified Chicago buyers into those conversations early, and quietly.

Income, Where the Rules Allow

Short-term rental rules are set town by town and village by village. We confirm the rules for a specific address before an offer is written, so the numbers are real before you commit.

At the top of the market, Door County’s Legacy Waterfront in Egg Harbor, roughly a half-mile of Green Bay shoreline, is offered at $16,500,000.

Are Door County homes sold off-market?

How does Door County compare with Lake Geneva or southwest Michigan?

Should I buy on the bay side or the lake side of Door County?

The Green Bay side, on the west, has the sunsets, sheltered harbors and the busier villages of Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, Ephraim and Sister Bay. The Lake Michigan side, on the east and often called the quiet side, has sunrises, long sand beaches and more space around Baileys Harbor and Jacksonport. Buyers who sail or want dinner within walking distance often choose the bay, and buyers who want quiet often choose the lake.
